What is a Natural Gas Installation Pipe?

Underground and aboveground pipes are used for natural gas transmission. Where these pipes are used, they should provide sufficient resistance to environmental conditions and effects, as well as fulfill the ideal and optimum cost conditions for the need for use. Determining the appropriate conditions has revealed different standards as a result of various experiences and knowledge. Various pipes used in the natural gas industry in our country are used in accordance with certain standards.

Steel pipes used underground and above ground are used in accordance with standards such as TS EN ISO 3183 and equivalent API 5L and ASTM A53 and ASTM A106. Seamless copper pipes are used according to TS EN 1057+A1 standard. Polyethylene pipes are used in accordance with TS EN 1555-1, TS EN 1555-2, TS EN 1555-3+A1 standards. Bendable hose type pipes are used in accordance with TS EN 15266 and TS 10670 standards. Steel pipes with TS EN ISO 3183 standard, which are used in the natural gas industry you are examining, are equivalent to API 5L standard as their standard content. Pipes reasonable to these equivalent standards provide different quality and specification levels. The material differences within the steel pipes and the differences in the production techniques enable them to reach various quality levels.

Natural gas installation pipes contain different classifications. The positions and requirements of the lines used in the installation after and after the station or service box have caused them to be classified differently.

Features of Natural Gas Pipes

-The wall thickness of natural gas pipes is thicker than the pipes within the scope of TS 301.

-The strength values and chemical content of the pipes are obtained from the most suitable sheet metal for welding.

-Internal burrs are removed and the pipe is completely annealed for stress relief in welded pipes.

-The wall thickness tolerances of natural gas pipes are more sensitive than other pipe types. 1.5% (10% in water pipe)

Pipe connection welds in installations can be screwed or flanged.

-Welding seams are tested by radiographic examination (fluoroscopy) method and ultrasonic examination method so that defective products can be scrapped.

-Hydrostatic pressure is applied to the pipes used in the natural gas installation. In addition, pipes are subjected to magnetic test. In this way, the tightness of the pipe and whether there are any errors in the metallographic structure are checked.

4)PSL2 DWTT test is performed in all thicknesses subject to negotiation in the qualities requested in accordance with the specification, at least 85% ductile fracture surface area at 0 °C is guaranteed, and the results are specified separately from the test certificate.(PSL2) results are specified separately from the test certificate(PSL2).

5)Depending on the pipe type, diameter and the direction of the test made from the pipe, there may be differences (decreases or increases) after the tensile tests made from the pipe with the roller.

For this reason, it is recommended that our customers choose the most suitable quality according to the pipe they will produce, considering this situation. ERDEMİR guarantees the mechanical properties specified in the API specifications only in the tests performed in the transverse direction on the hot rolled strip (PSL1)(PSL2).
