What are Transmission Irons?

Transmission iron is a special product in the iron and steel industry. If we look at the answer to the question of what is a transmission iron in a general framework, we can say that it is cold drawn, round section and 1008 SAE or EN S235Jr quality steels. When we look at their features, we see how reasonable they are for various procedures. For example, let’s talk about its compliance with the welding procedure, which is an important feature. Having a low carbon value, it becomes very suitable for welding application thanks to these features. On the other hand, they are also suitable materials for machining. They can be easily processed on both CNC and Lathes, providing ease of use and efficiency. Steels that are formed by molding at room temperature are called transmission steel or cold drawn steel. With the cold drawing process, it is aimed to increase the yield strength and tensile strength of the material without the need for heat treatment.

One of the most important features is that they are economical compared to other types of steel.

Produced by cold drawing technique, it is subjected to a second process to be brought into different shapes such as round, square or hexagonal. We can easily call this process “tightening”. If the customer has expectations such as meticulous tolerance and high surface quality, this cold drawing technique we mentioned will give the best results. In short, the product obtained by cold drawing technique is made to have a precise measurement tolerance, has superior surface quality, increases in both yield and tensile stress of the product, and increases in hardness while decreasing its continuity. Ultimately, a transmission iron is encountered as a product with superior properties.
